The government of Tanzania is planning a new attempt to privatise Tanzania Telecommunications Company Ltd (TTCL), even as it considers lending the company US$215mn to keep it in the black. An unnamed Vietnamese company has reportedly expressed interest in buying the national incumbent telephony operator. BMI would certainly welcome a new investor in the company, which has made little progress in developing and enhancing its core networks and services, despite the prior involvement of two otherwise highly capable sets of foreign management companies.
