Data from the Colombian TV Association (CNTV) revealed the pay-TV market hit 3.5mn subscribers in 2010, a 9.6% y-o-y increase. This strong growth, up from just 1.5% a year earlier, was driven by competition in the market. The increased competition resulted in leader Telmex losing market share as its rivals stepped up their products and services. The trends show a declining interest in pay-TV from municipal operators and suggest a few small players are dominating the market, much like the fixed-line market in BMI's view.
