Handset manufacturer Sony Ericsson has posted slightly improved financial and operational results for the quarter ended September 30 2010. While gross and operating margins were greatly improved, the company still shipped fewer handsets and sales were down. Nevertheless, the company's tighter focus on higher-end products, particularly Android-powered smartphones, helped to keep average sales prices (ASPs) high and this prevented overall revenues from falling as far as they might otherwise have done.
