Jamiaca's Prime Minister Bruce Golding has signed a US$70mn fibre-optic cable licence to connect the Caribbean island with the Telecomunicaciones Gran Caribe (TGC) cable. The state-run consortium, run by Cuban and Venezuelan authorities, was the only bidder for a submarine cable to be built between Jamaica and Cuba, with a spur to connect to Haiti. Local telecoms operators are awaiting a decision from TGC to decide which company will be its partner in Jamaica.
