Vodafone's administrative staff on the company's online eforum have suggested that the company may be considering dropping its fair use data policy, which allowed its mobile phone users to go beyond their monthly data allowance of 500MB without incurring any additional charge. BMI thinks this could signal the beginning of the end of the so-called 'eat all you can' data tariffs for smartphone users, but suggests that striking the right balance is crucial for operators, as they may inadvertently hand a crucial competitive advantage to rivals that offer more generous data allowances.
