Orascom's Djezzy Problems Are Not Finished

Egypt-based Orascom Telecom is strong in North Africa, with its Djezzy network in Algeria a flagship operation. However, disputes over the repatriation of profits and now a disputed tax bill have put something of a cloud over the operator's Algerian business. Meanwhile, rumours surfaced early in December 2009 that French media conglomerate Vivendi is interested in buying Orascom's stake in Djezzy, even though Orascom insists it is not for sale.
