The mobile penetration rate in Honduras reached 103% in September, according to figures from local newspaper La Prensa. This is remarkable growth from the 88% penetration rate reported by the regulator Conatel in March 2009. The newspaper states that there were 8.138mn lines in Q309, up 32.7% compared with regulatory data for the end of 2008. While new competition has almost certainly driven connections upwards, BMI is sceptical that such a high penetration rate could have been reached in such a short period of time.
