The results of the long-awaited mobile licence auction has finally been released with trunking operator Nextel acquiring 60MHz of spectrum in the 1,700MHz and 2,100MHz bands and new entrant VTR gaining 30MHz of spectrum. While the results of the auction are not especially surprising, it could be the start of a period of change for the Chilean mobile market. As the auction has now been completed, BMI expects that the country's existing operators will increase their calls for new spectrum to be allocated to them in order to expand their own services.
