Recent weeks have seen a renewal of talks between MTN and Bharti Airtel over a potential tie-up between the two companies. Respectively, Africa and India's largest mobile operators by customer numbers, the two companies were also in merger talks last year, but these eventually ended in failure. The revival of potential merger plans now shows that both companies are serious about the prospect, but MTN suspects that it will take several more rounds before such a big move is able to gain enough momentum to be followed through.
