Ericsson, the Swedish telecommunications equipment vendor, has been awarded an exclusive agreement with pan-Caribbean operator Digicel for the provision of a national GSM/EDGE network in Panama. Under the terms of the agreement, Ericsson will be the sole supplier of a GSM/EDGE network including radio access network, mobile softswitch solution, mobile backhaul solution with optical and microwave products and convergent charging as well as billing solution. Furthermore, the vendor is responsible for network deployments, system integration and learning services.
