Venezuelan mobile market leader Movilnet, a unit of state-owned CANTV, has reported its base station deployment reached 1,291 to date, of which 760 use a GSM platform. Movilnet was expected to launch its GSM network in May 2008 but gave no information at the time regarding its launch. However, Movilnet President Jacqueline Faria stated that GSM services would be launched once the technology is 'on-par quality-wise' with its existing CDMA-based services.
