Telecom New Zealand's wholesale operating arm has launched a new service designed to allow internet service providers (ISP) the opportunity to provide real-time next generation services to their customers. Enhanced Unbundled Bitstream Access (UBA) enables the provision of real-time traffic with the ability to support applications such as IPTV. This makes it suitable for use on Telecom's ADSL2+ network, over which 56% of Telecom's fixed-line broadband subscribers are served, and set to rise to 80% by 2011. The operator has around 118 ADSL2+ exchanges with some 400,000 subscribers, and there are plans to extend the network to reach a further 70,000 customers.
