Two South Korean companies, Insprit and Internet Protocol Network, have been awarded a multimedia content contract by Thailand's state-owned incumbent operator CAT Telecom. The operator, which offers CDMA2000 1x and 1xEV-DO mobile services across 51 northern and southern provinces in Thailand, and similar services in 25 central provinces under the Hutch brand through its joint venture with Hutchison Telecom International, aims to provide wireless broadband internet and video streaming services, with content to be trialled over a three-month period. Over 20 local and international content applicants took part in the auction, indicating strong interest.
