Pan-Caribbean mobile operator Digicel has contracted Ericsson to deploy its solar-powered site system for remote areas of the South American country. The deal sees Ericsson's first deployment of solar-powered cell sites, which are designed to reduce energy consumption, in Latin America. The benefits to Digicel include lower operating costs and reduced environmental impact when deploying cell sites that have limited access to the country's electricity network.
