Worldmax has launched a city-wide commercial wireless broadband network, based on WiMAX 802.16e technology. The service, which is marketed as Aerea, is initially being offered as a 'light' service in central Amsterdam; it should be expanded to include a full range of functions and applications after the summer. Customers will, at first, need a PC card to connect their laptops and mobile devices to the network; a USB dongle will be offered at a later stage, once the network has been fully rolled out across Amsterdam.
