Swedish equipment manufacturer Ericsson has signed a managed services contract with Telefónica's unit in Brazil. Ericsson will maintain Telesp's fibre optic network in that company's São Paulo concession area, where it is the largest fixed-line operator. The contract includes supervision of the network as well as preventative and corrective maintenance provided by Ericsson, enabling Telesp to streamline management and operations as well as reduce costs. Telesp launched its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network commercially in February 2008 with broadband speeds of 8Mbps, 16Mbps and 30Mbps, the fastest available in the market.
