Telekom Austria To Be Broken Up?

Austrian newspaper Der Standard reports that the state privatisation body Österreichische Industrieholding (OIAG) is planning to break incumbent telecoms operator Telekom Austria into two independent units, each of which would be publicly listed. It seems that OIAG, which owns the Austrian government's 27% stake in Telekom Austria, has sought government approval to divide the operator into discrete fixed-line/broadband and mobile communications companies, the better to unlock the value of each unit's commanding presence in their respective sectors.
