Fixed-line incumbent BT has announced the launch of its smartphone, to be called BT ToGo. The handset will be available to BT's fixed-line broadband subscribers and will offer web surfing as well as music and video playback. The handset, produced by Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, is part of BT's wireless strategy and will function over BT's fixed-line network via WiFi in the home and at BT's 80,000 WiFi hotspots across the UK. Outside of the WiFi zone it will connect to Vodafone's mobile network.
