French telecoms regulator Arcep has announced that mobile subscriptions reached 55.731mn in the first quarter of 2008, bringing penetration rates to 87.6% across France and its départements d'outre-mer (DOM). In metropolitan France the penetration rate is slightly lower, at 87.1%, with 53.583mn subscribers. However, penetration rates in the DOM passed 100% in the final quarter of 2007. France has one of the lowest penetration rates in Western Europe but its market is still showing signs of growth, with 313,200 new subscribers added in Q108, a higher number than in Q107.
