Long-distance voice operator Embratel has announced it will be investing BRL600mn in 2008 and 2009 to bring WiMAX services to 200 towns and cities in Brazil. The operator, controlled by Mexico's Telmex, will begin its launch in April in São Paulo and 11 other cities before expanding across the country. Embratel will initially be marketing the services to the small and medium-sized enterprise market and will be using frequencies acquired in 2003 from regulator Anatel.
