MegaFon, Russia's third-largest mobile phone operator, has said that it plans to set up a representative office in Iran and is considering making long-term investments in the country's telecommunications sector. Although the company did not specify where these investments would be focused, observers believe that the company is planning to bid for Iran's new national mobile telephony licence, which is widely expected to be made available later this year.
