Belgian telecoms operator Belgacom is joining the growing trend for mobile market segmentation in Europe, with the launch of a new MVNO aimed at Belgium's North African community. The MVNO, called Mobisud will operate using the network of Belgacom's mobile subsidiary Proximus. However, what makes the MVNO unique is its transnational nature. Mobisud is controlled by Moroccan fixed-line and mobile operator Maroc Telecom and was first launched in France in December 2006. It was then launched as a special prepay tariff offer on Maroc Telecom's own mobile network in Morocco, before being extended to Belgium.
