Stronger competition in the Turkish mobile market has seen market leader Turkcell report weak revenues for the last quarter of 2006, which stood at US$1.20bn, a 0.3% rise over the quarter, surprising, given that Q4 is traditionally viewed as a seasonally strong period. The limited growth in revenues was attributed to the 3% growth in its subscriber base, which stood at 31.8mn users. However, this provided the operator with a reduced market share of 60.5%, against 61.5% in Q306, largely as market pressures from rival operators' Telsim-Vodafone and Avea began to show, as their ownership and strategy restructuring started to take shape.
