Chilean fixed-line operator Telmex has begun deployment of its WiMAX network, which will enable it to offer IP telephony, virtual private networks (VPNs), remote networks, broadband access and mobility to around 500,000 companies. Telmex has said that it will offer services to the corporate segment, and in particular to SMEs, enabling them to tap into a greater range of services, which were previously restricted to larger companies. The operator has promised to invest an initial capex of US$15mn over 2007, which should provide 90% network coverage to Chile's districts, equalling some 98% of the population, although the operator has declined to provide a total investment figure.
