Vodafone Turkey chief executive officer Attila Vitai has said that he believes Telsim , the company acquired by the UK mobile giant in late 2005, managed to claim the lead in December 2006, surpassing long-time No1 operator Turkcell . Turkish Daily News reported Vitai as stating, "at the end of November we had a market share greater than 24% and over the last six months 40% of people chose Vodafone (Telsim). We think we were the leader in December (2006)." According to BMI, while it is plausible that Telsim might have managed to surpass its 24% market share threshold, given that as of Q306 its share stood at 24.2%, it is unlikely to have overtaken No1 operator Turkcell, with a 61% share. Telsim's position in the net additions market shows that the operator reported its worst-ever quarter in Q306, with an 11% share, against Turkcell's 68%.
