Operating since 1990 as one of Pakistan's oldest mobile operators, it appears that MIC-owned Paktel can no longer compete in Pakistan's dynamic mobile market. With just 1.5mn subscribers in September 2006 and an approximate 3.5% share of the market, Paktel lies as the country's fifth largest operator, behind Orasom-controlled Mobilink, state-owned Ufone, Warid Telecom and Telenor.
