The expected launch of IPTV services in 2008 by Venezuela's incumbent operator CANTV will not impact growth for rival fixed-line and cable TV operators, according to BMI. The operator aims to attain an IPTV subscriber base of 800,000 users in the first five years of operation, with access to 100 channels. The service will also feature video on demand, live TV pause, personal video recording facilities and time shifted TV, once the US$157mn infrastructure is complete. Yet even though the service is to be made accessible to families on monthly incomes of just VEB400,000 (US$186), against a salary of VEB700,000
