In a rush to attain its goal of becoming one of the 'top 20 telecom operators in the world by 2010', the UAE's leading operator Etisalat continues to forge ahead with its expansion plans. However, since the operator took up its aggressive stance, it is difficult to find a logical approach to its M&A activities. Indeed, since it began in earnest in December 2005, with the acquisition of a management stake in Pakistan's PTCL, which has subsequently led to further licence purchases in Afghanistan and more recently Egypt, the operator has now announced its interest in a handful of other
