The Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has awarded a 3G network contract to Chinese telecoms equipment vendor Huawei Technologies for an undisclosed amount. Under the terms of the agreement, Huawei will supply a complete core network and new generation NodeBs to help the operator launch its 3G services on a national scale. The contract win for the vendor comes after the successful deployment of its GSM Softswitch network, which proved durable following the surge in peak traffic experienced in the Kingdom during the holy season of Hajj.
