Russian mobile operator MTS has made a bid for Egypt's third mobile licence, worth a reported US$430mn. MTS is believed to have paid an additional US$25,000 just to participate in the tender to become Egypt's third mobile operator. MTS is currently Russia's leading mobile phone company with nearly 40mn domestic subscribers and a 35% share of the wireless market.
