The South African mobile market, which is dominated by three major operators Vodacom, MTN and Cell C, has become increasingly competitive, with BMI expecting penetration rates to top 77% by end 2006, rising to 93% by 2010. In view of this, it may come as a surprise that Virgin Mobile will enter the market as an MVNO over Cell C's network. Virgin Mobile says it has spotted a niche in the market, and will focus its attentions towards higher spending customers, who are disappointed with existing operators.
