Ericsson To Expand And Operate City Fibre Network

Telecommunications vendor Ericsson has been awarded a contract to further develop and manage an operator-neutral city network in Hudiksvall, Sweden. Ericsson will be managing the network for open-access network operator Zitius until 2016. This will be Ericsson's first contract to both expand and operate a city network. As part of the project, the vendor will supply and deploy EDA 1200 fibre-access switches and metro aggregation, as well as SmartEdge Multi-Service Edge Routers and core network products. Ericsson is also due to begin rolling out fibre connections to individual homes this month.
