MWEB To Build Own Network

MWEB is continuing its aggressive programme to expand in South Africa's broadband market and reduce its dependency on the infrastructure of incumbent Telkom. While it awaits WiMAX spectrum licensing, MWEB has revealed that it plans to start building its own network infrastructure, using unlicensed spectrum and technology from Alvarion. This will do something to reduce, although certainly not eliminate, its dependence on Telkom's fixed-line network and the data rate problems that have become inherent in this dependency.
