Orascom Sets Deal Deadline

Orascom and Wind Telecom chief executive officer, Khaled Bishara, told Zawya Dow Jones that the company will walk away from the proposed deal with Russia's VimpelCom if no final agreement is reached by the end of March. The statement is the latest development in a protracted dispute between the two major VimpelCom shareholders Telenor and Alfa Group. There has been no comment from VimpelCom, Telenor or Alfa Group. BMI believe the difficulties are symptomatic of a fraught relationship between Telenor and Alfa over the VimpelCom shareholder agreement that was only resolved in 2009, and once again deteriorated.
