A fibre-optic cable between Venezuela and Brazil has reached the Amazonas state capital Manaus. The cable brings broadband services to the city, one of Brazil's most important, for the first time. Its location in the middle of the Amazon rainforest means previous internet access has been through limited dial-up and satellite connections, both costly and slow. The new cable highlights not only the cooperation between the two countries' governments but also the importance of cooperation between companies in the two countries to help reduce the digital divide._x000d_
