Robust Growth Boosts Tele2 Outlook For Mobile Market in Russia

Tele2 has again improved its outlook for the Russian mobile market, which it claims will be its primary growth engine for the foreseeable future. The company has raised its YE2011 subscriber base estimates from 19-20mn to 20-21mn on the back of robust growth in its existing licensed areas during 2010, as well as rapid customer adoption in those areas where it is building new networks. But the Russian 3G market is closed to all but the state-backed 'Big Three' operators and Tele2 is now pressing to move directly to 4G services instead.
