Telstra's Future Looking Slightly Brighter

Australia's drawn-out establishment of a National Broadband Network (NBN) took a step forward after the country's senate passed competition legislation designed to structurally separate fixed-line incumbent Telstra. Although the actual separation of Telstra is still subject to the approval of the company's shareholders, decommissioning of its copper wire network for AUD11bn (US$10.6bn) would provide assurance for the company's future and give Telstra the ammunition it needs to invest in alternative revenue-generating streams.
