PNBL Could Have Long Term Negative Impact
December 2010 | Industry Trends And DevelopmentsAbout 550 internet service providers (ISPs) are reportedly interested in connecting with the new network that will be launched by former telecoms incumbent Telebrás. The state-owned operator has been revived by the Brazilian government as part of its National Broadband Plan (Plano Nacional de Banda Larga - PNBL). However, the implementation of the PNBL has been delayed a further four months until April 2011 because of 'bureaucratic reasons'. The interest demonstrated by ISPs highlights the potential in Brazil's broadband market, in BMI's opinion.
