4G Plans Will Only Net Benefits For World Cup Cities

Telecoms regulator Anatel has brought forward the auction of spectrum in the 2.5GHz band to February 2011 with a view to ensuring operators have access to sufficient spectrum in time for Brazil?s hosting of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The auction is set to take place a year earlier than previously expected, opening up the possibility of Brazil having active LTE networks by 2013. While BMI welcomes the regulator?s forward-looking attitude, we believe there will be limited demand for LTE services outside the main cities where World Cup games will take place.
