New Telecoms Operator Created In Haiti
September 2010 | Daily AlertA deal reached on September 1 2010 has created a new telecoms operator in Haiti, called Natcom, which will provide the island nearly US$100mn of investment over the next four years. Vietnamese operator Viettel has a 60% stake in the company. The remaining 40% is owned by the central bank of Haiti (BRH) and the state telecoms company Teleco and its affiliates. BMI views the announcement as an encouraging confirmation that the telecoms sector is being prioritised in Haiti as part of efforts to develop the economy and rebuild the country in the wake of the devastating January 2010 earthquake._x000d_
