Privatisation Of Incumbent Key To Increased Competition In Telecoms

Two of Bahrain's highly placed royals have highlighted the government's intention to improve the telecoms sector. Trade Arabia reports that Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the deputy king, and Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa have called for the 'adoption of policies that distance the sector from monopolies and support its competitiveness regionally and internationally'. Should the government adopt such open policies to drive competition, BMI thinks they could have significant implications for the state-owned incumbent operator and the entire telecoms sector.
