Efficient Strategies Imperative For MTS' Rural Expansion

MTS Turkmenistan has announced a project to expand its mobile network in remote and underserved areas of the country. The operator has seen very rapid subscriber growth over the last four years, recording an impressive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 125.2%, but with mobile penetration at 41%, there is considerable capacity for growth. BMI strongly supports rural deployment but cautions that operators need to get their business models right, given the strong likelihood of lower ARPUs and high capital and operational expenditure.
