Cuban Mobile Growth On The Up?

The Cuban mobile market hit 1mn subscribers in Q210, according to a statement from ETECSA's vice president for mobile services, Máximo La Fuente. Data for Q110 show that the market reached 689,200 subscribers, a 45.1% increase over the quarter. BMI is unconvinced this number of subscribers was reached by June 2010, as previous releases from the operator have clashed with those from Telecom Italia (TI), which owns 27% of ETECSA. Nonetheless, strong growth is continuing to drive up connections and seeing Cubans gradually gain access to mobile services.
