MTN/Orascom Deal Off

Talks between MTN and Orascom Telecom have now officially broken down. Negotiations between the two companies over a potential acquisition by MTN of some of Orascom's assets had continued, even though the main draw, Orascom's Algerian unit, Djezzy, had been taken off the table. BMI was encouraged by MTN's interest in taking a smaller portion of Orascom, including its Sub-Saharan operations. However, it appears the draw was no longer big enough for the South Africa-based operator.
