Sivas' Loop Telecom Deal Could Spur New Consolidation Phase

Indian telecoms investor C Sivasankaran is said to be negotiating the purchase of 49% of pan-Indian mobile licensee Loop Telecom. As Sivasankaran already holds a controlling stake in rival GSM licensee S-Tel, BMI believes that an outright merger of the two businesses is on the cards. Although both operations are still among the smallest on the market, BMI sees this deal as having the potential to kick-start a long-awaited new phase of consolidation in the crowded Indian mobile market.
