Nextel Contract NSN As It Seeks Expansion

US based NII Holdings, the owner of Nextel operations in Latin America, has granted a contract to Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to manage its networks. Financial details were not disclosed, but the deal is likely to be large as Nextel operates in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru. It is the first contract of its size in Latin America and one of NSN's largest. Benefits for both the vendor and the operator are clear, particularly as the latter looks towards offering 3G services across its operations.
