Comelec: 3mn Filipino Voters Have No Telecoms

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reports that six key provinces in the Philippines may not be able to participate fully in the upcoming hotly contested local elections, scheduled for May 2010, due to a lack of basic telecommunications infrastructure. These regions are home to as many as 3mn registered voters, according to Comelec, which suggests that polling stations could be connected via satellite phones to ensure universal suffrage in the country.
