Dispute Over 3G Licence Fee Continues

Despite the fact that the Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK) made a statement earlier in January 2010 that it would not reduce the 3G licence fee, Safaricom has decided to weigh into the 3G debate, registering its displeasure with the idea of a fee reduction for its competitors. It is reported in the Daily Nation that if the CCK were to bow to pressure and reduce the licence fee for the other operators, Safaricom would demand a refund. While the outcome of this debate is not certain, BMI tentatively expect the CCK to maintain the price level.
