Thai Operators' 3G Wait To Continue
January 2010 | Company News AlertMoves to license 3G spectrum and services in Thailand have again been thrown into chaos as The Bangkok Post quoted Wichien Mektrakarn, CEO of mobile operator Advanced Info Service (AIS), as saying that he believes that the auction of 3G licences could be delayed by 'at least two years'. This would be very much longer than the 'few months' delay currently expected by the Thai authorities. This gloomy outlook has prompted AIS to partner with incumbent TOT - the country's sole 3G concessionaire - to offer a joint service in selected cities from February 2010.
