Ministry Will Raise Mobile Spectrum Cap To 55MHz
December 2009 | Industry NewsColombia's Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications has published Decree 4722, allowing mobile operators to own a maximum of 55MHz of radio spectrum for the use in providing mobile telephony services. Previously, the spectrum ownership limit had been set at 40MHz. The new cap takes immediate effect, and BMI believes it likely that existing mobile operators will now seek to buy up spectrum from smaller operators or service providers while also stepping up requests to the authorities for additional spectrum to be released.
